Got my Xotic BB Preamp pedal today. I went to the local musicstore. Plugged into a solidstate Kustom 100w head and 4x12. 400€ was the price tag of the rig. I was BLOWN AWAY!
On th eclean channel, the amp sounded like a fender showmaster, so tight and roomy. So right there I was utterly impressed by this cheapo amp from China. But, when I then added the BB as a distortion and boost pedal on the clean channel, and then experimented with it as a overdrive on the leadchannel, I was floored. The sound was just singing! The harmonic complexity of the sound was unlike anything I've heard so far. Hands down the best pedal I have ever tried, and the most flexible. I will next try it on a Mesa Boogie Dual Rec, and then Elmwood Modena and Lehnert on a few weeks. If you are looking for a pedal to out in yoru pedal board, on in the gigbag, look no further. I think this pedal is a Jack-o-all trades.

Amplifying acoustic guitars/instruments - what do you guys run through? I'm stuck on finding a good (pre)amp to use. Needs to:
(1) Be silent when I'm silent. And I mean silent. No hiss.
(2) Have a great tone (preferably for both steel- and nylon-string).
(3) Have enough power to combat a grand piano, drums, bass -- a loud acoustic band.
Any suggestions?

Hey Richard.
I'd love to hear a recording of you using that sexy BB pedal. they haven't hit Australia yet and I do like to try before I buy. Hearing a Flaxwood chum playing one is the next best thing methinks.

Jussi my beer swilling friend!
Have you considered using one of those RCF bi-amped PA speakers. My partner Carolyn (center of pic) uses the ART 300A and it's fricken loud! A 200 watt amp drives the woofer and a 100w amp drives the tweeter horn. She has a small Roland acoustic preamp and a Boss EQ that she kicks in to compensate for the differences in her Maton guitars.
If you were looking for an 'out of the box' preamp alternative I would suggest something from the TC Finalizer series. Don't be put off by the studio talk- it's based around a multiband compressor which is essentially used to control Dynamics in a musical way. There is multiband EQ, limiting and all sorts of goodies to really shape and control your sound. I use the plug-in version in Slo-tools.

Mmmm. Just got my hands on Home Brew Electronics' Full Metal Jacket distortion. Can't stop toying with it, awesome lead tone (into a Bogner Shiva). Any of you play one?
The sound clips on their site aren't that descriptive of the tone in my opinion, but might as well check them out.

Been thinking of switching to 6L6's on my Bogner Shiva (currently has busted EL34's, had to gig with a Fender Deluxe). Looking for a rounder, less harsh tone on the distortion channel. What do you guys think, good idea?

A guy I know, Infinite Ego at the GtrOblq.com forum, has a shiva and seems to know a lot about them. Maybe drop over there and ask him. His name on the forum is Admin.
