After the experiment with the Kulta gold, Fernandes Sustainer-equipped fretless Flaxwood that was on display at the Frankfurt MusikMesse and Summer NAMM worked out so well, I just had to have a fretless of my own made by Veijo for my Middle Eastern perversions.
This time, we changed the pickup configuration a bit.
Specs:
- FW Custom fretless
- Saraste tobaccoburst finish
- Pickups: Seymour Duncan SH-2N Jazz (bridge); Sustainiac sustainer pickup (neck)
- Gotoh Tune-o-matic bridge (sunk-in)
- flat neck angle
The Sustainiac seems to work better than the Fernandes Sustainer, at least according to my initial impressions, especially with the thinner strings (.011 gauge standard set). From the three fretlesses Veijo has made that I've had the chance to play, this one definitely feels and plays the best. I don't exactly know what it is, but the sustain (without the Sustainiac turned on) seems to be the best so far.
Visually, it looks absolutely stunning. One of the lighter Saraste tobaccoburst specimens I've seen.
A truly spectacular guitar.

I want one :)
Make another video with that one. I think the fretless might become an item of interest for many players.

Hehe...
I'll definitely make a better quality video with it once I get settled in here in Boston. Still waiting to move into my actual apartment, crashing at friends of friends.
I'll keep you posted. Anything particular you'd like me to demo with it?

No nothing in particular.
Put some of your new oud-experiences on the fretless fretboard of that guitar and give us a treat! Something like the Frankfurt Messe improvisations only without the background noise by Yngwie and other players, haha!
I'd like to listen to some dry recordings, though. No effects, Just the fretless, amp and mikes to capture what's going on the room - share the vibe :)
If possible shoot the video from different angles (not the standard youtube-view) so one can see how you move with the instrument.
All the best to you out there in Boston!

Thanks for the input, A-L.
I'll try and capture something once I get all my rating auditions and orientation exams out of the way this week. Then I can take a deep breath and start to focus on all that good stuff. :)
Bost On, Bost Off!
