Born squat on the arctic circle in Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland, bred around the Middle East and East Africa. I'm a 26-year-old professional freelance guitarist, currently based in Helsinki. Pop/jazz music pedagogy major at the Stadia Polytechnic in Helsinki.
I've been playing out and about the Finnish music scene in several groups for some years now, playing quite a few different styles from rock, pop, soul, funk and jazz all the way to modern Egyptian fusion and Senegalese afro groove. I'm currently focusing mainly on Unveil, an acoustic world music trio dabbling in Mediterranean sounds and shades where I play (fretted and fretless) acoustic guitars and the oud (an 11-string fretless Arab lute); and Ndioba & The Topoto Band, an afro groove ensemble led by Senegalese virtuoso bassist and vocalist Ndioba Gueye.
First and foremost, I'll always consider myself a guitarist and an aspiring musician; what I do here at Flaxwood is simply an outgrowth and an extension of that. What can I say? I'm extremely proud and honored to have been given this chance to be a part of something that we intend to be Finland's contribution to the legacy of the electric guitar.
(Besides, it enables me to be a musical pervert and play outside the mainstream and still make rent if so inclined. Which I am. Ha!)
